Katherine (aka Kat) Hutchison is a partner and co-owner of Project7 Design. With a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Graphic Design with a concentration in drawing from Drake University, Katherine has held a variety of creative positions at studios and agencies. Working as a designer, art director and creative director she honed her skills before co-founding p7 where she focuses on the studio’s client relationships, day-to-day business operations and brings in the occasional complicated mural project for some fun team bonding.

In April of 2017, Kat founded p7 alongside Bridget Drendel after the pair teamed up to work on freelance client projects together. As their workload grew, they needed to see their layouts in print but had to have a business location in order to lease a printer. So, they rented a space and the rest is history. Today the p7 team has grown to eight full-time employees, a web developer and—of course—a printer.

Katherine also co-owns Loyal Sons Barber Shop with her husband and serves as Vice President on the board of the Art School Arts Program (ASAP). When she’s not in the office you can find Kat starting projects around her house, learning a new craft, hanging out with her dogs and planning her next trip.

Best Part of My Job

The best part of my job is the relationships I have been able to create with so many of our clients. I love how p7 has become an extension of so many of our client's businesses which allows us to get to know so many different kinds of people. I also really love designing logos and painting murals when we get the chance.

Random Skill You'd Wish to Put on Your Resume

Tell Us About Your Pets!

I have two dogs and a cat. My cat's name is Herbert and he likes to go outside and explore. The best thing I trained him to do is to go to the bathroom outside with the dogs and come back to the house when I call him. My dogs are a couple of playful & sweet mutts, Peter & Ramona. I read somewhere that just three minutes of petting a dog can relieve stress, so I like to keep a few around at all times.
