For more than 60 years, the area that is now Riverview Park was home to one of Des Moines’ first amusement parks. Thanks to the dedication of Des Moines Parks and Recreation, the Friends of Des Moines Parks and other local organizations, the outdoor space is once again a place for the community to gather. Today Riverview Park’s legacy is remembered through informative signage, creative places to play, event venues and more.
As part of this project, Project7 Design created signage, illustrated playground graphics and more for the newly renovated Riverview Park. In addition to directional signage, p7 also researched, wrote content for and designed more than a dozen informational panels detailing the park’s history from its origin as an oxbow lake to present day. P7 also created the graphics and illustrations for the park’s new playground equipment. These elements draw inspiration from Riverview’s original attractions and the zoo animals that once lived at the park.
